How to Change and Put RAM Into a Computer

Hey there! If you have never heard of RAM or ever changed RAM here is a few short but simple instruction as to changing or putting RAM into a desktop computer (We are using a old HP computer as an example in the photographs but your computer should be fair similar ) If you would like to know exactly what RAM is and what it does to and for you computer here is a short definition, ‘’RAM’’ stands for (Random access memory) it's an important part of any computer and laptop. Its used for everything you do on your computer, the more RAM you have inside your computer the faster it performs. Steps
1Step 1 :First off, make sure the PC is switched off and unplugged, then put the computer in a steady position so you can change the components easily.
2Step 2 :You will now need to open the side panel of the CPU. You can do this with a screwdriver unscrewing the screws at the back of the side. For some computers however they can be removed without a screwdriver.
3Step 3 :You will see a large amount of cables and components in the computer. Just try and locate the vertical green sticks of ram which are located usually near the top of the motherboard to the right. If your computer is anything like mine it would located to the bottom right.
4Step 4:When you have found the RAM, you will need to press the pins at the top and bottom of the ram sticks so you can add more along with the old ram or replace the ram completely.
5Step 5 :You should be fine once you boot your computer up but you should check your specific motherboard to see you are placing the ram in the correct DIMM slots. It should be in order so there should be a ram card in DIMM slot 1 and 2 before 3. So for example you cannot put ram in the
6Step 6:Get the side panel of your computer and take the screwdriver if needed and close it up. After your computer should be ready. 1.Attention: Before opening or touching anything inside your computer make sure that you have no static on you this could happening from using anything electrical or even walking on a carpet. To prevent all this make sure you touch a metal surface or by wearing static free bracelets.

1.What you will need : Screwdriver ( Optional )Desktop computer RAM (of course)There is many different types of RAM such as DDR3, DDR2 and DDR3 I’m sure the RAM would be more likely DDR3 as its the only one sold at this point of time. Don’t worry about exactly what brand of RAM it is as they all ‘’should’’ work the same.
